paper flower class @ we are 1976

Join us on SATURDAY, MARCH 13th 11am-1pm for our PAPER FLOWER SCULPTURE
workshop at We Are 1976!!!

Learn to create paper flowers from recycled pages of vintage books. Students will produce
a bouquet composed of delicate paper flowers and branches found in nature. We will also demonstrate a technique used in paper conservation to tone paper in baths of acrylic paint and water. The dyed pages will be used to create brightly colored paper petals to contrast with the creamy colors of the old book pages. Students will also receive a gift wrapped present as well!

coptic binding

we still have room in the COPTIC BINDING workshop on february 28th from 1-4pm. all materials and tools will be provided. this class is $75 in advance and $80 at the door. please let us know if you would like to register!

students will learn link stitch sewing, how to cover boards, and how to attach board covers to the text block. this book has exposed sewing on the spine. tish ordered beautiful hand-dyed thread for the sewing. we will use an assortment of decorative papers to cover the hard board covers of the book.


coptic binding
refers to methods of bookbinding developed by early christians in egypt, the copts, and used from as early as the 2nd century ad to the 11th century. the term is also used to describe modern bindings sewn in the same style.

basket weaving!!!

we are very excited to announce our first basket weaving class!!! we are honored to have guest instructor jan schmidt as a visiting teacher on MARCH 21, 2010 from 10:00am to 4:00pm.

in this workshop we will learn to weave a 13" x 8" x 12" market basket with handle. this basket has a solid woven bottom with a solid wood handle that is woven in, making for a very strong basket. we will wrap the handle for a finished look. multiple color choices will be available.
the cost of the class is $35 dollars in advance and $40 at the door. registration is limited and there are many people that expressed great interest in joining, so early registration in HIGHLY recommended.  please forward to others that might be interested!!!
