coptic binding

we still have room in the COPTIC BINDING workshop on february 28th from 1-4pm. all materials and tools will be provided. this class is $75 in advance and $80 at the door. please let us know if you would like to register!

students will learn link stitch sewing, how to cover boards, and how to attach board covers to the text block. this book has exposed sewing on the spine. tish ordered beautiful hand-dyed thread for the sewing. we will use an assortment of decorative papers to cover the hard board covers of the book.


coptic binding
refers to methods of bookbinding developed by early christians in egypt, the copts, and used from as early as the 2nd century ad to the 11th century. the term is also used to describe modern bindings sewn in the same style.

envelope and fold books workshop

our up coming workshop will explore fold and envelope book structures. the variations are endless and the opportunity for creativity is boundless. here are a few samples of what we will make. above and below are triangle fold books made with paste paper hardcovers...
